Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What will I need to bring?

A. The only thing you really need to bring is a change of clothes and your toothbrush. We have tried to build and provision our vacation homes the way you would build and provision your own second home. Upon arrival you may be surprised to find quite a selection of canned and dry foods. These are provided for your convenience so you will not have to bring a lot of groceries with you or have to locate the 24-hour grocery store if you are arriving late in the evening. We only request that you replace them whenever you do make it to the grocery store. As all highly perishable items are disposed of prior to your arrival, you may want to bring bread and milk. Complimentary items that do not need to be replaced include coffee, sugar, equal and creamer; all soap products including bath, dish, and laundry soaps; all snacks such as chips and popcorn.

Q. Will I need to bring my own linens?

A. All linens as well as paper products like toilet paper, paper towels, and paper plates are also provided. Many other items such as condiments, toothpaste, aspirin, etc., spare batteries, and just about anything you might find in your own home, are provided for your convenience.

Q. Where is the closest grocery store?

A. There are four grocery stores in greater Franklin, approximately a fifteen minute drive from the cabin. The Ingles store located in the Wal-Mart Shopping center is open 24 hours for your convenience. The Wal-Mart shopping center is located on the Hwy 441 bypass. There are also two other Ingles, and a BiLo, located around town.

Q. What are the check-in and check-out times?

A. Check-in is 3:00 PM and Check-out is 10:00 AM

Q. Can we check-in early or check-out late?

A. We try to observe strict check-in and check-out times to allow us sufficient time to do a thorough cleaning between guests. Some leniency may be allowed if there are no guests immediately before or after your scheduled stay.

Q. What is the weather generally like?

A. July is usually the only month where a sweater or jacket will not be needed. Temperatures in June and August can dip into the 40's or 50's, so it is always a good idea to bring warm clothes. We have a direct link to the "Weather Channel" site on our home page where you can print a 10 day forecast for the Franklin, NC, area.

Q. Is there a lot of snow in the winter?

A. Usually not, however, if it does snow our driveways leading back to the pavement are cleared by equipment and personnel on site. The ski resorts in North Carolina manufacture snow all winter long so you can enjoy snow skiing or snow tubing throughout the winter months.

Q. What sort of activities are there to do during our stay?

A. Our Things To Do page lists many activities available in the area and if you click on anything highlighted in blue it will take you directly to another website featuring that activity. In addition, somewhere in the living room of your cabin you will find a basket with various maps of the area as well as brochures for many more of the area's attractions.

Q. Can I bring my motorcycle or ATV?

A. Absolutely! Responsible riders are always welcome. For ATV riders the Great Smoky Mountain National Park has a large area with several trails set up specifically for ATV's. Don't own an ATV? There is an ATV rental service in the National Park.

Q. Is smoking allowed?

A. Sorry, there is no smoking allowed in cabin. Smoking is permitted on the covered porch and ashtrays are provided there for your convenience.

Q. Is there a phone in the cabin?

A. Yes, there is a phone in the cabin and you are allowed unlimited local and incoming calls. You will need a credit or calling card should you wish to make any long distance calls.

Q. What do I do with my garbage?

A. Garbage can be disposed of at the transfer station located about 2 miles south of Cowee Baptist Church on Hwy 28 at Sanderstown Rd. The transfer station is open 7 days a week, except holidays, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday thru Saturday and 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Sundays.
